What is End-of-life Care?
End-of-life care is a crucial service dedicated to aiding those grappling with terminal illnesses or life-limiting conditions. It prioritises not only the management of physical discomfort like pain but also the emotional, psychological, and spiritual wellbeing of the individuals and their family members. This holistic approach ensures comprehensive support in managing symptoms, providing comfort, and attending to mental health and spiritual concerns, thereby enhancing the quality of life during its final stages.
The primary goal of end-of-life care is to ensure the highest possible quality of life for the individual, allowing them to live their remaining days in comfort, dignity, and with the support of their family and friends.
End-of-life care is distinct from palliative care, although they share similar principles and goals. While palliative care can be provided at any stage of a serious illness, end-of-life care specifically focuses on the final weeks or months of an individual’s life, when their condition has progressed to a point where medical treatment is no longer an option.
The end-of-life care team works closely with the individual, their family, and health care professionals to develop a personalised care plan that supports their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being during this challenging time.
Is it Possible to Receive End-of-life Care at Home?

Absolutely, it is possible and often beneficial to receive end-of-life care in the familiar comfort of your own home. At Care for Family, we believe that home-based end-of-life care can provide a comforting environment for your loved one during their final days.
Our team of professional and compassionate carers come to your home, working closely with you, your loved one, and health services to ensure all physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are met.
Home-based end-of-life care enables family and friends to be more closely involved in their care, offering support and companionship.
By receiving end-of-life care at home, your loved one can maintain a sense of independence and control over their daily routine, which can significantly enhance their overall quality of life during this challenging time.
Our team at Care for Family is dedicated to providing exceptional end-of-life care services in the comfort of your own home, ensuring that your loved one receives the care and support they need, whenever they need it.

How much does in-home End-Of-Life care cost?
Care For Family was founded on the belief that in-home care services should be available to everyone, at all life stages, at an affordable price. Because of this belief, we offer a free, no-obligation in-home assessment and consultation to discuss and tailor an in-home respite care solution for you and your loved one.
We understand that remaining at home, surrounded by memories and in a familiar routine, is important for the happiness and wellbeing of those receiving care. That’s why we offer a wide range of options for in-home end-of-life care to ensure your loved one can remain in their own home, in familiar surroundings.
You may be eligible for a government-funded package to support you with caregiving, and each of the services we offer can top-up or supplement any government-funded package you receive. Other funded packages may come from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) or Community Nursing programs. At Care For Family, we can work in coordination with these organisations to supplement the subsidised care they offer.
The cost of our in-home end-of-life care services is the same as that of our private care services, which are the most competitive in the industry. Depending on what level of care is required, whether from a registered nurse or one of our care professionals, we can create a package of care to suit you.

End-Of-Life Care FAQs
What is the difference between end-of-life care and palliative care?
End-of-life care focuses on the final weeks or months of an individual’s life when their condition has progressed to a point where curative medical treatment is no longer an option. Palliative care, on the other hand, can be provided at any stage of a serious illness and aims to improve the quality of life for individuals facing life-limiting conditions.
How do I know when it’s time for end-of-life care?
The appropriate time to begin end-of-life care varies for each individual and depends on the progression of their illness and their unique needs. It’s essential to consult with your medical professional and discuss the options with your loved one and family members to determine the right time to initiate end-of-life care.
Can end-of-life care be provided alongside curative treatments?
End-of-life care is typically provided when curative treatments are no longer an option or when the focus shifts towards comfort and quality of life. However, some individuals may continue to receive specific treatments to alleviate symptoms while receiving end-of-life care.
How long can end-of-life care last?
The duration of end-of-life care depends on the individual’s unique circumstances, such as the progression of their illness and their specific needs. End-of-life care can last for weeks or even months, depending on the situation.
Who is involved in providing end-of-life care?
A team of professionals, including carers, health services providers, and specialists, work together to provide comprehensive end-of-life care. This team collaborates with the individual and their family members to ensure all physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are met.
How is end-of-life care funded?
End-of-life care funding can come from various sources, including government programs, private health insurance, and personal payments. It’s essential to explore your options and consult with health care professionals to understand the funding options available for your loved one’s end-of-life care.
Can I provide end-of-life care for my loved one myself?
